1986
The Beginning
Campey Turf Care Systems is founded by Richard Campey in Cheshire, England. With a background in turf maintenance, Richard’s vision is simple: provide effective, reliable machinery backed by practical expertise and a genuine understanding of the turf professional’s needs. Supplying local sports clubs and councils, the company quickly builds its reputation for customer care and innovation.
1988
The initial machine the company brought to market in the north-west of England was the Greenline Coremaster, the first PTO-driven coring aerator, sold to Richard by Colin Gregory. This pioneering product marked the beginning of Campey’s journey into machinery distribution.
William Kidd becomes Richard Campey’s first employee, beginning 15 years of service.
1990s
Innovation Takes Root
Early 1990s – Campey’s early ventures into equipment supply firmly establish its reputation as a trusted source of practical, forward-thinking turf-care machinery, reflecting a long-standing commitment to innovation and continuous improvement within the industry.

1991
Exhibited for the first time at BTME, Harrogate, UK with Tony Cundall (sales) showcasing LESCO range of machines.
1994
Appointed New Holland (Ford) Tractor dealers with the first Ford 1520 tractor sold to Prestbury Golf Club, UK shortly followed by a 2120. The first Dennis FT510 mower is sold to Cliff Evans (contactor).
1997
Campey sells the first of many Trimax Stealth mowers to Bolton Metropolitan Council.

Campey introduces the Koro® Field TopMaker, revolutionizing sports surface renovation. This innovation allows rapid removal of unwanted organic matter and sets a new benchmark for natural turf maintenance. This cements Campey’s reputation as a company that drives change through practical technology.
1998

The first Koro® Field TopMaker is sold to J. Mallinson (contractor).
1999
Campey Turf Care Systems hosted its first Open Days, giving visitors the opportunity to see machinery demonstrations, meet industry experts, and learn more about the company’s products and services.
2000s
Partnerships and Global Expansion
Throughout the 2000s, Campey forges partnerships with world-class manufacturers including Imants, Vredo, and Dakota. By 2008, Campey becomes the exclusive UK distributor for Imants, strengthening ties with one of Europe’s most advanced turf machinery developers. These relationships support rapid international growth, with Campey exporting equipment and training turf professionals across Europe, North America, and Asia.
2001
The company becomes exclusive distributors for Dakota Turf Tenders, with the first Dakota 410’s sold to Quality Golf France and George Browns in the UK during September.
2002

New Koro for pitch renovation launched at Winsor
2003

The first Imants RotoKnife is sold to Vicars Cross Golf Club, UK. The company is appointed Imants dealers for the north-west of the UK.
Tines Direct is established as a subsidiary to sell replacement tines and blades.
2004
Campey Turf Care Open Day 2004.
2006

The sale of the first Vredo Overseeder is sold to Steve Braddock, Arsenal Football Club. The contracting division of the business is sold to Souters Sports.
2009

Appointment of Brian O’Shaughnessy as Product Specialist for Ireland.

The first Campey Pitch Renovation takes place in Europe at AC Sparta Prague. Dave Harrison joins as Export Sales Manager.
2010s
Sustainability and Education
Campey leads demonstration tours and educational events across the world, sharing sustainable turf care practices with grounds teams at every level. Partnerships bring even greater precision and efficiency to turf management.
2010

Neil Armstrong joins as Accounts Manager, progressing to Company Secretary.
2011
Richard receives the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Institute of Groundsmanship (now the GMA). The company celebrates 25 years of trading.
2013

The first Air2g2 (now called Foley Air2g2) is sold to Peter Roberts, Hart Common Golf Club, UK.
The first Campey Pitch Renovation takes place in the UK at Fleetwood Town Football Club, followed by the first in the USA at FC Dallas.

Richard Heywood is appointed as Product Specialist for Scotland.
2014

Campey Turf Care Systems Open Day.

Jane Middleton retires after 25 years’ service as Company Secretary.
2015
British patents granted for the Campey™ Universe® Rotor for its unique action with the Koro® Field TopMaker. Further patents are granted around the world.

Ben Taylor is appointed Southern Area Manager, leading growth in the southern UK and Benelux.

David Stonier starts as sales demonstrator and undertakes his first demo tour in Spain & Portugal within three weeks, with Lee Morgado.
2016

Further expansion in the UK sales team sees the appointment of Simon Holland.
2017

Richard is ranked third in the Turf Business Top Ten Influencers in the industry.
2019

Richard is appointed as company Chairman. Julia Campey becomes Managing Director, with John Campey and Lee Morgado becoming Directors. This transition ensured continuity of the company’s core values while preparing for a new era of innovation and growth.
The first Fleischmann Electric Mower is sold to Inturf, marking Campey’s early move into sustainable, electric-powered turf machinery.
2020s
Innovation for Every Level
Campey continues to introduce new technologies designed for versatility and sustainability.
2020

Nick Brown joins as Export Sales Manager, supporting the expansion of the international dealer network and strengthening customer relationships globally.
2021

Following Brexit, Campey Ireland Ltd is established to enable the company to continue trading in Ireland.
2022
In May the company opened a new branch in Bosley, Cheshire (6 miles from head office), expanding its footprint to offer a showroom, more space for stocking spare parts and used tractors.

Campey Australasia is launched, extending the company’s reach and dealer support network across Australia and New Zealand, reinforcing its global presence.

Mandy Caton celebrates 20 years as receptionist / sales admin.
2023

The Campey™ Seed Shot™ offers fast, accurate post-match seeding to maintain quality playing surfaces.

For the first time a brand-new DAF XF 480 truck (CA71PEY) is purchased, previous trucks have been second hand.

Steve French celebrates 25 years with the company, progressing from workshop to spare parts manager to general manager.

The company receives its largest order to date of just over £1.1m from Chelsea Football Club, special congratulations to Ben Taylor for securing this milestone order, highlighting the trust of elite football clubs in Campey’s machinery and services.
2024

The company is recognised as a leader in global trade winning the Manchester Chamber of Commerce Global Star Award for international growth and export success.
Redevelopment at head office adds a modern workshop and welfare facilities.
2025
The Imants RecyclingDresser® 1.3 debuts at SALTEX, delivering the benefits of soil recycling to smaller tractors and community-level sports.
Campey also features prominently in the GMA Community Sports Zone, showcasing equipment specifically designed for grassroots applications.

Further innovative machines are brought to market, including the VGR TopChanger, widely regarded as a machine for the future — combining deep aeration with material injection to enhance soil structure and long-term sustainability. The first machine under the new partnership with VGR is sold to Peter Roberts, Hart Common Golf Club, marking an exciting new collaboration.
Introduction of the Fairway Falcon a first of its kind, articulating fairway brush, ground driven, 12 V electric implement for easy operation.

The company also celebrates its 20-year partnership with Imants BV, commemorated with a staff trip to the Netherlands.
